The Torbay lifeboat has been part of the community of the port of Brixham for generations. The current all weather lifeboat is a Severn Class “The Alec and Christina Dykes” which has its own mooring pontoon adjacent to the lifeboat station next to the D Day embarkation slipway in the harbour and is manned by its own volunteer crew. The RNLI is funded entirely by donations and its own fund raising endeavours. This coming Sunday, August 13th, the RNLI is holding a “Seaside Special” in Brixham. There will be action and entertainment all day, from 10.00 a.m. until 10.00 p.m., centred on the life boat station including tours of the lifeboat itself. One of the many fundraising events taking place is the Lifeboat Pedalo Races taking place between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. Teams of four will be racing pedalos along a course in the harbour. Eric Lloyd & Co is sponsoring one of the pedalos as well as entering a team in the races. The Eric Lloyd Co team members are Edwin Morgan, Mike Williams, Andy Robinson and Bill Bye. They are all looking forward to the challenge of the races and planning their strategies in the hope being on the podium at the end of the day. Hopefully the lifeboat will not need to be launched to rescue any of the race competitors! Later in the day, Mike Williams’ band Rage will be playing before and after the fireworks display. As part of the day’s fundraising Rage will be donating their appearance fee to the RNLI.
