There is a lot of discussion in the press at the moment about social media and other electronic forms of communication contributing to a lack of personal interaction.  This sometimes leads to misunderstandings or even conflict as the personal interaction and body language is missing from the “conversation”.  Whilst social media, emails and texts play an essential role in modern communication it is vital that personal interaction is not lost.  This is never truer than in estate agency.  Properties for sale are now on display to the world 24 hours per day 365 days of the year and potential buyers from around the globe can be in contact at any time of the day or night.  However it is only by engaging in a real conversation that an estate agent can fully understand and discuss the needs of a buyer or a seller and provide the relevant help and advice.  Jonathan Bye, director of Eric Lloyd & Co, recently read a great article about how one of the bay’s well known agents got his first job.  The story goes that he walked into an office in response to a recruitment advert for a new team member and asked to speak to the owner of the business.  The response he received was to enquire if he could read as the advert requested applications in writing.  He then asked for a sheet of paper and wrote a note to the owner on the spot.  An interview immediately followed, and the rest as they say is history!  What did the note say “How many houses do you sell by writing letters?”
