VILLAGE HALLS.

Galmpton village is fortunate in having two great halls.  The village Institute is home to the Galmpton Pre School, hosts a variety of other events and organisations throughout the week as well as having a full size snooker table.  During the Second World War children from the school took cover under this table if there was an air raid likely!  It is now used by the local snooker club.

The Barn Hall is located above The Barn Chapel in the centre of Galmpton Village.  The Chapel and Hall were converted from a cider barn in the 1960’s.  This also is a much valued village asset.  A breakfast Club is held there in the morning, the Barn Art Group regularly meets there, with “Stay & Play” being held on Friday mornings.  The Barn Hall is now in need of improvement in order to enhance the facilities for its users.  The parish of Churston and Galmpton has been awarded a match funded grant to improve the “Green Credentials” of the Barn Hall.  Every pound raised locally will be match funded by The Church of England, the target being to raise £5,000.  Eric Lloyd & Co, Estate Agents, is supporting this fund raising campaign which culminates in a Quiz and Curry Evening plus Grand Raffle in the Galmpton School Hall on Friday 15th March.  Tickets for this event, £8 each (teams of six), plus raffle tickets (£1 each) are available at Eric Lloyd & Co’s office on Churston Broadway (TQ4 6LE) as well as from the school office.  Other events include a Cream Tea afternoon at The Barn on Saturday 10th February and a talk by local historian, John Risdon, on the history of The Barn on Saturday 17th February in the Institute.    This is an on-line giving scheme and donations for various items, including insulated ceiling tiles @£10 each can be made on line at:  https://givealittle.co/c/barn-hall
